There are 19 Community Action Agencies throughout the State of Missouri, touching the lives of 384,000 residents yearly. Field offices are conveniently located across Missouri’s 115 counties to provide citizens easy access to the development and use of programs best suited to their needs. Missouri’s Community Action Agencies are united under the self-help principle of creating community solutions to community problems.

Community Action is pledged to the idea of people becoming self-sufficient participants in their community’s economic and social progress, not dependent on dwindling state and local resources.

Since Community Action was created in 1965, our motto has been:

"PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE TO HELP THEMSELVES"

NECAC’S ORGANIZATION:

NECAC is a not-for profit agency that is governed by a volunteer 36 member Board of Directors and managed by a full-time professional executive director. The 36 member board of directors is composed of 3 representatives from each of the 12 counties served. Each county is represented by one Public Elected Official Representative, one Civic Interest Representative and one Low-Income Representative.

This organizational structure assures local decision making control and accountability, as well as the ability to develop programs to operated and set policy and administrative procedures to assure the needs of the disadvantaged are met. The local Board involvement also assures granting officials and taxpayers that program goals and requirements are achieved efficiently.
